InterSTORE 4th General Assembly Meeting: Advancing Open-Source Interoperability

In June, the InterSTORE partners gathered for a pivotal meeting to review the progress across multiple work packages (WPs) and outline the next steps to ensure successful project execution. The first day was packed with presentations from WP leaders and key contributors, each sharing insights and plans for the upcoming phases of the project.

The morning presentations included the WP2 “Open-Source Interoperability Toolkit” presentation of SUNESIS. Partners highlighted the significant strides in developing tools that foster seamless integration across various platforms. The discussion centered around recent achievements, challenges encountered, and the roadmap ahead to enhance interoperability within the project’s framework.

Following WP2, RWTH Aachen University took the floor to present the results of WP3 “Dimensioning, Testing, and Integration”. The presentation delved into the technical complexities of dimensioning, testing, and integrating various project components. RWTH showcased the robust testing methodologies employed and discussed integration challenges. The session concluded with an outline of the next steps, emphasising the importance of rigorous testing to ensure system reliability.

Partners from CyberGrid presented WP4 “Multiservice and Flexibility Monetisation”, which focuses on the monetisation strategies for multiservice flexibility. The discussion showed innovative approaches to maximise the financial viability of flexible services within the project.

After the break, Forschungszentrum Jülich presented WP5 “Pilots Demonstration”, which centered around pilot demonstrations. Pilot owners provided updates regarding the practical application and of the project’s technological advancements. The presentations highlighted successful pilots and addressed areas requiring further refinement before broader implementation.

The German pilot was presented by Forschungszentrum Jülich, Austrian presented by CyberGrid, Italian by Enel X, Portuguese by CAPWATT, Spanish by HESSTEC.

The morning presentations concluded with an open discussion, focusing on risk monitoring. The discussion allowed the partners to discuss concerns, share insights, and collaboratively identify potential risks and mitigation strategies.

In the afternoon the CyberGrid presented the Data Management Plan, outlining how data will be managed, shared and protected throughout the project’s lifecycle.

RWTH partners returned to present the Triple Layer Business Model Canvas, a strategic tool designed to map out the economic, environmental, and social aspects of the project, aligning the project’s objectives with broader sustainability goals, ensuring a holistic approach to value creation.

WP7 “Project Management and financial reporting” was presented by Enel X and RWTH, who discussed the next steps on the reporting requirements, timelines and best practices to ensure accurate and timely financial documentation. An open discussion and risk monitoring update followed, providing another opportunity for participants to address any remaining concerns and align on risk management strategies assigning tasks to ensure the smooth progression of the project.

The presentation of work package 6 presentation presented by EASE conducted the day, focusing on the strategies for communication, dissemination, and exploitation of project results. EASE partners updated the partner on actual status of the tasks evaluation, future actions and effective strategies, ensuring maximum impact and uptake.

Day 2 was focused on rehearsing the Interim Report and reviewing the progress of the work carried out during the first 18 months.

The two-day meeting highlighted the progress made but also charted a clear path forward. With a strong focus on innovation, integration, and sustainability, the project is well on track to achieve its ambitious goals.
