InterSTORE at the LF Energy Summit Europe 2025

On 10 and 11 September 2025, InterSTORE partners will highlight the project and its achievements during dedicated sessions at the LF Energy Summit Europe 2025.

10 September (Opening Day): InterSTORE will take the spotlight with the official presentation of CUPID, a new LF Energy project.

11 September (Day Two): Engineering partners will showcase the OneNet Framework Open Data Space Solution, a key step forward in energy digitalisation.

Building a Vision for DER Interoperability: The CUPID Project in LF Energy

Our coordinator, Antonello Monti (RWTH Aachen University), and technical coordinator, Alexandre Lucas (INESC TEC), will introduce CUPID, a new LF Energy project that brings together three core components:

  • an implementation of IEEE 2030.5 over NATS;
  • a legacy protocol converter;
  • a comprehensive test suite.

Since the software is being developed within the InterSTORE project, the coordinators will present it. IEEE 2030.5 is a critical standard for managing inverter-based resources, already widely adopted in regions such as California and Australia. The CUPID project aims to deliver a reference implementation that not only adheres to the standard but also enhances its capabilities through integration with NATS. By enabling many-to-many data exchange, NATS opens the door to entirely new use cases and applications for this protocol.

Drawing on the insights and results gained from the InterSTORE demo-sites, the presentation will showcase practical use cases and their outcomes.

OneNet Framework Open Data Space Solution for Energy Digitalisation

On 11 September 2025, during the second day of the summit, the Engineering partner, Ferdinando Bosco, will present the OneNet Framework Open Data Space Solution for Energy Digitalisation. This open-source initiative (currently being submitted to LF Energy) was originally developed under European Commission co-funding within the OneNet project, and has since been adopted and evolved in multiple European initiatives, including InterSTORE, Enershare, TwinEU, Hedge-IoT, Enpower, and Crete-Valley.

The OneNet Framework introduces the first concept of a pan-European energy network based on the Data Space approach. This concept enables energy stakeholders to connect, cooperate, and co-create new services within a trusted, shared ecosystem. Data sharing is increasingly becoming a cornerstone of the energy sector’s digital transformation, and the OneNet Framework directly addresses the associated challenges.

Key features include:

  • Open-source, modular design – deployable and configurable by diverse energy stakeholders;
  • seamless integration of any data source or legacy platform into a unified Data Space ecosystem;
  • alignment with International Data Space (IDS) specifications;
  • support for widely used interoperability standards at both technical and semantic levels;
  • enabling a standardised, data-driven approach for the sector.

This solution demonstrates how open, interoperable tools can accelerate the digitalisation of energy systems and foster innovation across Europe.
